SMC’s Net-Zero Targets Officially Validated by Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
2026-05-03April 14, 2026
SMC Corporation is proud to announce that our “Net-Zero Targets” have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an international organization dedicated to climate change certification. This validation covers greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions across our entire value chain, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
While SMC’s near-term targets (aiming for significant reductions by FY2030) were previously validated in June 2024, this latest certification recognizes our long-term commitment. We have established a clear “Two-Step” roadmap to reach our ultimate climate goals:
- By FY2040: Achieve Net-Zero emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2.
- By FY2050: Achieve Net-Zero emissions for Scope 3.
SMC remains dedicated to advancing environmental initiatives across the entire group, contributing to a more sustainable future for the industry and the planet.

² Emission Scopes Defined:
- Scope 1: Direct CO₂ emissions from fuel consumption within the company’s own facilities.
- Scope 2: Indirect CO₂ emissions from the consumption of purchased electricity, heat, or steam.
- Scope 3: Other indirect emissions related to the company’s value chain, such as raw material procurement, logistics, and the energy consumed by customers when using SMC products.
